Curtis Smith: I’ve been styling hair for 21 years, and a consultant
for 10 years.

 

Crème Magazine: Tell us how have you been able to build your clientele so they keep coming back for your service? 

Curtis Smith: I get to know each client personally so I know what
they like. I also let them know a little about me so we build a personal connection, and an ongoing dialogue.

 

Crème Magazine: How soon did you begin working with celebrities?  

Curtis Smith:  12 years

 

Crème Magazine: Name some of your past and current celebrity clients? 

Curtis Smith: Diddy, Usher, Pras, Dwayne Wade, Allen iverson, Carl Thomas and many more

 

Crème Magazine: When did you acquire Diddy as a client?

Curtis Smith: 1997

 

Crème Magazine: Is it true that Diddy has his own custom made clippers that are only used on him? 

Curtis Smith: Yes I made him a especially designed set of clippers but I don’t cut him with them because its a one of a kind, and I don’t want to mess up the condition.

 

Crème Magazine: How often do you hook him up with a cut?

Curtis Smith: 2 to 5 times a week usually

 

Crème Magazine: Do you attend or participate in any beauty tradeshows or conferences?

Curtis Smith: Yes, I’m usually an educator at the trade shows because I cross promote my products with the education.

 

Crème Magazine: So tell us about your natural hair moisturizer Sweet Jamila?

Curtis Smith:  Well the product has been out for 8 years now, and after being told by all my clients to put it on the market I’ve been getting a great response. I have a shea glaze for hair and scalp named sweet jamilla, and a daily moisturizing after shave lotion called shave therapy.
