Two great destinations to travel while giving back to local communities and charitable partnerships.
We’ve all read the headlines about community charitable partnerships, service and helping others in need. This was brought to the forefront with the recent travesties in Haiti and Chile.
What a beautiful concept to be able to explore the world and at the same time give back. Let’s explore Philanthropy through travel. Amazing off-the-beaten path to destinations in Argentina and Ponte Do Ganchos (the south of Brazil).
Faena Hotel + Universe, Buenos Aires Argentina
Faena Hotel + Universe opened the doors to a new way of travel where guests are able to experience the local culture, combined with a creative center that represents the best of Buenos Aires. How about this twist, there is no reception desk. Upon check-in you will be greeted by your “Experience Manager” who serves as your butler, concierge and personal assistant. During the day you may wish to retreat to the warmth of a hamman (Faena’s Turkish-style steam bath) followed by a dip in the pool. In the evening, El Cabaret provides an intimate setting for the best Tango show in town.
The Library Lounge is another option for the best cocktails and nightly shows. Buenos Aires is a City of passionate people with intense cultural activities. Your visit offers you the luxury of taking tango lessons, visiting local architecture and antique shops or take in a Polo match.
Philanthropy – Faena created the Laboratory of Artistic Experimentation (LEA) to support the creative development of its artists and researchers through grants and awards programs. The LEA selects artists to create specific projects with various communities of the Faena Art District.
Ponta Dos Ganchos
One of the most romantic settings in the world, Ponta Does Ganchos offers 25 stunning bungalows featuring Brazilian hardwood and natural stone. Each bungalow is beautifully decorated with a fireplace, music system, private Jacuzzis and a view of the Emerald Coast. Guests have the use of all resort amenities which include an Oceanside tennis court, billiards and game room, laser dinghies, ecological trail and an on-site cinema (with a library of 300 films).
Enjoy the day napping on a hammock or a treatment at the Oceanside spa (Christian Dior Spa). For the adventurous, scuba diving can be arranged in the Marine Reserve of Arvoredo. The nightlife all happens in Florianapolis (happy hour at the local public market).
Philanthropy – Giving back to the community is deeply ingrained in the Brazilian culture (a guiding philosophy “teach a man how to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime”. In addition to being one of the largest employers in the City of Governador Celso Ramos, all seafood and produce is purchased from local vendors. They also encourage employees to further their education and to learn a second language (by contributing 70 percent toward school tuition).
Giving back is definitely the new “sexy.” When searching for destinations for travel this year, research to see if your travels will allow you a wonderful time of exploration and relaxation, but most importantly and opportunity to pour into another life.
Until next time…the world is waiting!!!
